If you’re a comedian and you’re not on Twitter, you’re doing something wrong. That seems to have become the case in the past year, anyway. The latest social networking craze, with its 140 character or less status update format, has become a quick way for comics to connect with fans and widen their popularity.
In a recent interview, CNN spoke with comedians John Heffron and Craig Shoemaker on the nuances of successful, comedic tweeting. Here’s a taste of the interview:
CNN: How did you build up your fan base, John? How did you build up this number of followers on Twitter?
John Heffron: I try to be funny; I try to be entertaining; I try to do stuff that hopefully gets re-twitted. Is that the word? Sure…
Shoemaker: You know, as a comedian, it’s funny now it seems like you have to be funny and be this crazy Internet marketer. How can I let somebody know that I’m coming into whatever city, and Twitter and Facebook and all those things are the best way to do it.”
