Ever the wiseass, British comedian Jimmy Carr may be in trouble for taking a picture of a sign in a courthouse, which stated that it’s a criminal act to take photos inside the courthouse.
Chortle reports that he took the photo yesterday in Suffolk where he was answering to a speeding charge (which was dropped that day).
He then posted the picture on his Twitter page, where more than 10,000 fans have now seen it. Some have commented on how his actions could cause problems with the law.
The sign reads: ‘It is a criminal offence to take photographs in court buildings. This offence includes the use of mobile phones with camera capability. If phones/cameras are used in this way, the police will be advised immediately and the phone/camera seized.’
… Taking pictures in court carry a maximum fine of £1,000, but offenders can also be prosecuted under tougher contempt of court laws which carry prison sentences.
Suffolk police say they are ‘aware of the image and we are looking into it’.
We’re sure this will turn into nothing, but we find Carr, and this situation, hilarious.
