Yesterday, the world of musical comedy lost a dear friend. Bret McKenzie, Jemaine Clement and James Bobin, co-creators of the HBO television series Flight of the Conchords, announced that the show would not be returning for a third season. Though rumored previously, they confirmed speculation late yesterday with the following news post on the Flight of the Conchords website:
“…we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.”
In mourning, fans made puns to express their loss, based on popular song lyrics of the group: “I’ve got hurt feelings.” “This little buddy’s down with a frown.” “No, I’m not crying. I was just cutting some onions (I’m making a lasagna). And even so, these tears wouldn’t turn into jellybeans – they’re just normal tears. Because I’m sad.”
Also, after the jump feel free to take a look at some of the highlights from the series.
