Joe PiscopoAfter Dark with Joe Piscopo, a new TV variety series filming next year, is holding an audition showcase Dec. 29th at The Joynt in Chicago. Dubbed “Jokes @ The Joynt,” performers will have the chance to earn a spot in the upcoming series, which will feature performances from some of today’s best artists in music, comedy, theater and film.

Piscopo is probably best known for his time on Saturday Night Live, though he’s most recently focused on live performance, touring the states and Canada performing stand-up, multimedia comedy, and a Frank Sinatra Big Band tribute. If you’re still unsure, his name may be oddly familiar to you due to numerous references to it in the prime years of The Simpsons (“a young Joe Piscopo taught us how to laugh…”).

Piscopo has had a long relationship with The Joynt, so it is no surprise that it will be the filming site for After Dark.

There will be two showcases on the 29th. The first, starting at 7 pm, will feature headliner Rocky LaPorte (Just for Laughs festival, TBS, the new Tim Allen film), and feature act Hannibal Buress (writer for SNL, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Just for Laughs). The second show follows at 9:30, and will feature a lineup of prominent Chicago comics as well as headliner Renee Gauthier (Chelsea Lately, Last Call with Carson Daly, Just for Laughs) and feature act Dave Odd.

Tickets are available here.
