With alumni like Jay Leno, Denis Leary and (dropout) David Cross and Steven Wright Emerson College in Boston has gained a reputation as natural breeding ground for young comics. In the past, comedically-driven students have always gone for it on their own time, but starting next month, the school is finally working comedy into their actual curriculum.

Starting in February, the school’s Department of Professional Studies will offer and eight-session workshop with comedian/author Michael Bent, culminating in a master session with veteran standup and Late Show With David Letterman talent coordinator Eddie Brill. The students will then perform a set at The Comedy Studio in Cambridge.
