Comedy Central announced that it has officially picked up The Onion Sports Network for a 10 episode season. The announcement to pick up the pilot adapted from The Onion’s popular, sports world-lampooning webseries, was made by Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s head of original programming and production.

“The Onion has such credibility in the comedy world, we feel fortunate to partner with them,” said Alterman. “They will skewer the sports world, and the media coverage of sports, with the same sharpness we’ve seen applied to the world of politics and popular culture.”

“The Onion Sports Network teaming up with COMEDY CENTRAL?,” said Steve Hannah, The Onion’s CEO. “If I were ESPN, I’d consider a whole new line of work.”

Look for it in early 2011.
