George LopezIt’s amazing. Between George Lopez being besties with Sandra Bullock — you might have heard she’s in the midst of a bit of a scandal — and Conan O’Brien sliding onto TBS, Lopez’s profile has risen dramatically. And he’s just hosting his show the same way he has been since last November.

When the news first broke that O’Brien would be moving to TBS as the lead-in to Lopez’s chat show Lopez Tonight, some skeptics cried that Coco was doing to Lopez what Jay Leno had done to Conan– that is, bully him out of his established time slot.

But according to Lopez, himself, that was the one major concern Conan expressed to George before the deal was made. Conan did not want to pull a Leno on Lopez. As the story goes, TBS honchos asked Lopez to ring Conan and chat with him about the possibility of moving to TBS; that’s where Coco made this declaration. Lopez tells the story below to Larry King.
