Russell Brand sure is busy. On the verge of the release of his new movie, Get Him To The Greek, he managed to squeeze in time to record vocals for a reworking of “3 Lions,” the official anthem of England’s football (soccer) team. The song was originally written in 1996 by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner along with the band The Lightning Seeds.
Later that year, when England hosted the UEFA European Football Championship, the record topped the charts. The new recording teams the old writers along with Brand and English pop-star Robbie Williams. The rerecording is in preparation of England’s participation in the World Cup, which will start June 11 in South Africa.
