Comedian Russell Peters awarded his first scholarship to Randy Adams, a graduate of North Peel Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. The North Peel Scholarship, which we covered earlier this year, is designed to help a student of Peters’ alma mater by providing up to $20,000 for college tuition. To win, the selected student must have a strong academic record and plan to attend college in the fall.
Peters, whose community service track record also includes a $500,000 donation to the Brampton Civic Hospital, wanted to give back to the technical school that he says was instrumental in achieving his success. “When I was a teenager, North Peel was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Peters said. “I finally felt like I belonged.”
This year’s recipient, Adams, will be enrolling in the Electrical Engineering Technician program at Georgian College.
