World famous comedy venue Carolines on Broadway and Punchline Magazine have joined forces to present the Breakout Artist Comedy Series. Each Tuesday, at Carolines in New York City, an emerging stand-up comedy star will headline their own show and prove just why they’ve been quietly building a name for themselves in the national comedy scene.

And since we here at Punchline Magazine are all about exposing the best comedians – well-known or not – we’ll be profiling each comedian taking part in the Carolines series each week. So let’s get to this week’s headliner: Matt McCarthy!

Matt McCarthy was born in Providence in The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Shortly thereafter he began childhood in East Providence in the village of Rumford.

He attended Rumford Morning Nurserary School for two years. Shortly thereafter he became best friends with Vin McGinn because he had the Imperial Walker from Empire Strikes Back.

He attended Saint Margaret’s School for nine years. Shortly thereafter he grew a deep and heated hatred for nuns. He attended La Salle Academy for four years. Shortly thereafter he lost my virginity to a lesbian.

He attended Fordham University for four years. Shortly thereafter he became the University Mascot and was attacked by seven to ten Columbia University students. He resides in New York City. He assumes he will die in a mugging.

Matt has also hosted AMC’s “Action Pack” and stars in commercials for Guinness and Verizon FiOs.

Who do you think are the breakout artists of the next few years?
Me and the Matt McCarthy Comedy Players.

Did you expect your commercials with Verizon to become as popular as they did? Has it affected you comedy/stand up career in any way?
No, I expected them to be MORE popular.Yes, people shout VERIZON during jokes now instead of YOU SUCK.

You recently came out with a new comedy CD “Come Clean.” As people buy fewer and fewer CD’s, is there still a place for ‘the comedy album?’
There will always be a place for the 2,000 copies of my CD I have.

What’s next for Matt McCarthy? Where will you be in a few years?
I’ll be on the top of the comedy ladder, stomping the fingers of young talent everywhere.
