Comedian and actor H. Jon Benjamin has been around for years, yet it’s likely that not all that many people can actually put a face to the name. Known largely for his voice acting, there’s a good chance that you’ve heard him before, even if you haven’t heard of him before.
Some of his more famous roles include voicing the main character Sterling Archer on FX’s spy-cartoon Archer, voicing both youth soccer coach John McGuirk and aspiring actor/eight year old Jason on the horribly underappreciated cartoon Home Movies, and voicing the can of vegetables that Christopher Meloni’s character gets all of his advice from in the cult classic movie, Wet Hot American Summer.
After his recent work on Important Things With Demetri Martin, in which Jon shares a lot of screen time with Martin, Comedy Central seems to feel as though Benjamin has proved himself as an on screen actor as well, inking a ten episode deal with Jon to create his sketch comedy show: Jon Benjamin Has a Van.
According to Deadline.com, the show was inspired by videos Benjamin did with Jon Glaser for their live comedy show, Midnight Pajama Party (check out the clip below) Benjamin has been quoted saying, “Part of the show is playing the character, a more morose version of me, but mostly it is me driving around in a van and finding stories along the way,” and that “It’s Borat without the funny accent.”
