To further encourage guys who think they’re funny at the water cooler at work to get up onstage and try to perform stand-up comedy, reality show producers thought it would be a swell idea for Harry Hamlin to take a crack at it. In the new TV Land show Harry Loves Lisa — about the relationship between once-respected television actor Harry Hamlin and his never-respected actress-type wife Lisa Rinna — Hamlin takes to the stage at the Hollywood Improv to deliver a set filled with dick jokes and an amazingly long and, probably, $1,200, scarf.
And this isn’t the first time mainstream television has used the art of comedy as a tool to create awkward moments and better ratings for wannabe television stars. In January, the contestants of the Bachelorette were challenged to perform stand-up comedy to win the heart of some moron. And going way back to season cycle 6 of American’s Next Top Model, producers forced tall, hungry women into classes with the well-respected Groundlings improv group.
Anyway, check out Harry’s performance below and let us know what you think. Are we being too hard on him and on television shows that use the art of comedy as a tool?
