Between television and movie deals cruising at him left and right, Tracy Morgan has been having an incredible few years. So, it makes sense that the 30 Rock star is set to premiere a brand new stand-up comedy special; strike while the iron is hot! It’s coming in the form of Black and Blue on HBO, which will hit your eyeballs on Nov. 13 at 10 pm.
I was lucky enough to attend one of the tapings for said special, held at the historic Apollo theater in Harlem. It was great to see Tracy back on the stand-up stage (not that he ever really left) being appreciated by so many adoring fans. But, let me be straight with you: if you love Tracy Morgan, you’re going to love this special. If you love well-crafted, vaguely insightful, intelligent comedy, or are hoping that this is Morgan’s great, big return to stand-up, you are going to be disappointed. Clearly, Morgan has moved on from his days as a committed stand-up comedian. And, really, there’s no reason for him to go back that way, if he’s not compelled to do so.
Regardless of what I say about Black and Blue, I have no doubt that this special will be wildly successful for Morgan and for HBO. That said, watch the trailer below, wherein Tracy yells at people and, of course, promises to get someone pregnant.
