Tenacious D fans, rejoice!

Jack Black has revealed that the comedy-rock duo is in the midst of recording its yet-untitled third studio album, likely to be released by the end of the year. Accordingly, not too many details of the new album are available, but Black has disclosed that the album will offer songs with some universally-appealing subjects: love, sex, and food. What’s not to like?

“We’re in the middle of recording it. We’re about halfway through the writing process. We need another few months,” Black told Spinner. “But you can look for it at the end of 2011.”

After the jump, check out a clip from the pair’s 2006 movie Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. Bonus: it features the talented and well-dressed Paul F. Tompkins!

Their self-titled debut is a bona fide classic. (I still quote the “Drive Thru” skit to this day.) The “Pick of Destiny” soundtrack was decent, but I think it suffered because almost all of the songs were written to suit moments in the film’s plot. I have high hopes for Album No. 3 if it is indeed a return to the standalone-album roots of the D’s debut.

And it better have “Jesus Ranch.”
