The best thing about a web series is that it can be unabashedly surreal and hilarious – and a new series on Funny or Die is no different. Guy Nicolucci, erstwhile Conan writer and current Huffington Post contributor, released the first episode of The Ghost of Tom Carvel and a Real Topless Woman earlier this week.
The show is exactly what it sounds like: the ghost of Tom Carvel (voiced by Conan writer Brian Stack) hosts a talk show with his sidekick, a topless woman (Dru Mouser).
Where’d this idea come from? Guy told Punchline Magazine, “I bought a friend a Carvel ice cream cake for his birthday and it got me on a two-day jag of talking like Carvel. When I finished annoying my wife and burning my throat out, I found this article that said Carvel might have been murdered. After that the series kind of fell into place. I still don’t know where the Topless Woman came from, but I’m glad she’s there.”
Me, too.
We’re only on episode one, but I have high hopes for future shows. At the very least, Carvel’s getting some great publicity, which might be a boon for Guy: “I’m hoping they’ll send me that Carvel Black Card for a lifetime supply of free ice cream that they took back from Lindsay Lohan’s mom, Dina.”
Check out the premiere episode below. The guest is none other than Conan sidekick Andy Richter – his discomfort is palpable and absolutely golden.
