Few journalists have logged more hours picking celebrity brains as six-time New York Times best-selling author Neil Strauss has. He’s hung with, and ultimately written about the likes of legendary rock band Motley Crue, pornstar-turned-mainstream success Jenna Jameson and Chuck Berry— to name a few.
Strauss’ new book, Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead: Journeys Into Fame And Madness (out March 15) culls 200 of his interviews with 120 notables for the more than his 3,000 magazine pieces. And judging by a glimpse of the 544-page tome, it looks like there’s plenty of juice for comedy nerds to taste.
Comedians Chris Rock, Russell Brand, Billy Connolly as well as modern comedy flick giant Judd Apatow are all represented. And we wanted to give our readers a sample. Below is an excerpt from Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead, reprinted with permission by the author.
