It’s real simple. Comedian Kevin Hart is one of the hottest commodities in comedy today. So, it’s no surprise long-running BET chose him to host their annual awards when they go down live June 26 at 8 pm EST.
In a statement today, Stephen Hill, BET’s president of music programming and specials said, “When we asked folks who should host this year’s BET Awards online, in the streets, among other celebs and throughout social media, one name came back to us loud and clear: Kevin Hart.”
We don’t doubt that one bit.
Hart has nearly 1.3 million Twitter followers, is slated to star in no less than three motion pictures through 2012 and has been selling out huge venues (we’re talking arenas, theaters and performing arts centers) on his current Laugh At My Pain tour.
Past hosts of the BET awards include Queen Latifah, Will and Jada Smith, Mo’Nique, and Jamie Foxx.
“I’m excited to join a group of that caliber,” Hart told BET. “As far as the people who did it before me, they were warm-ups. They were good. I laughed. But they ain’t make nobody cry.”
