Lisa Lampanelli is scheduled to perform tonight in Topeka, KS, which is where the Westboro Baptist Church is located.
Quick review: the WBC is led by Fred Phelps who routinely organizes protests against gays, Jews, Catholics, Lutherans—basically anyone who are not them. These are also the cats that protest outside the funerals of American soldiers who were killed in action.
Anyway, the fun folks of WBC are planning to protest outside of Lampanelli’s show tonight. Which is fine with the comedian. She has promised to donate $1,000 for every protester that turns up to her show tonight. And where is she donating the cash? The longest-running HIV/AIDS service group, the Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York City.
“We are grateful for Lisa Lampanelli’s kindness and courage to fight homophobia,” says Marjorie Hill, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of GMHC. “She is holding up a mirror to bigotry and hatred, and reflecting back love and generosity.”
Well played, Lisa. Well played.
