Russell Brand deported from Japan for criminal past; Katy Perry totally bummed

Russell BrandEven international celebrities aren’t immune to strict border rules. This past weekend, comedian and actor Russell Brand was deported from Japan because of his criminal past, announced pop star Katy Perry, his wife, on Twitter.

Perry was understandably disappointed – she “brought him all this way to show him [her] favorite place” – but her husband had a more light-hearted reaction to the situation. Said Brand, “Planning escape from Japanese custody. It’s bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick.”

Brand’s arrests reportedly happened about 10 years ago, while he was still very much doing drugs.

Maybe he should have a chat with Robert Downey Jr. about how to escape. The actor was detained for a similar reason when he was promoting Iron Man in Japan, which he discusses with David Letterman here:
