The Onion wants a Pulitzer.
They want the highly coveted award so much so that they’ve launched the Americans for Fairness in Awarding Journalism Prizes, AFAJP, an “organization” dedicated to guilting the committee responsible to giving up the award. If you’re a regular follower of their “news” coverage you can actually sign a petition by uploading a video to their site detailing your grievances about The Onion not ever getting a Pulitzer.
So far, they’ve gotten the likes of Arianna Huffington and Tom Hanks and hundreds of other people to make videos supporting the cause.
Even if they’re news isn’t real and is written for (mostly) the sake of humor than, one can’t discredit the rise of Literally Unbelievable, a collection of legitimate reactions via Facebook to Onion news articles as if they were real. It’s a perpetual exposé on how naive people can be after reading what’s posted on their wall or forwarded to them in an e-mail. If that legitimate news commentary is not rewarded, then you can expect some hilarious angry rant videos very soon.
