The best position a show writer and producer can be in with a network is one in which said producer dictates whether your show lives for another season. It’s a rare place to be in Hollywood. But it seems Larry David has been in that category for the better part of a decade.
At the conclusion of Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s season seven — yes, the Seinfeld season of 2009 — it was anyone’s guess as to whether the hugely popular HBO series would return. The ratings were there; the fans were certainly there. But was Larry there? Eventually, he was. As we all know season eight premieres this Sunday at 10 pm EST. But will Curb return for season nine? We asked Susie Essman, who plays the lovable, reactive and foul-mouthed Susie Greene on the show about the future of Curb.
“I don’t know if this is a good omen or bad omen. But after every season, Larry says, ‘That’s it! I’m not doing another season. I’m done!’ And he didn’t say that this season,” Essman tells Punchline Magazine. “However, after every season, we end up doing another season. So I don’t know if it’s a bad or a good omen that he didn’t say that this time.”
