There are a few well-known centers of comedy in the nation: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco. These places have consistently birthed some really incredible comics of all varieties, and boast some wonderful venues and festivals to boot.
Some other locales in the U S of A, though, have their own comedy festivals. Why should the big cities have all the fun, am I right? First, registration for the Charleston Comedy Festival Stand Up Competition has just opened. The big event is about six months away, but preliminary competition rounds start Aug. 5 – and there are cash prizes! Hooray! Second, apparently the entire state of Arizona is coming together for the Arizona Comedy Festival to be held next April. They’re on the prowl for 10 comics of all kinds to perform at the premiere event, at which point they too – you guessed it – will be eligible to snag some moneys.
