Comedy and horror have had a hard time mixing intentionally. Sure, plenty of people today laugh at the guacamole filled vomit in The Exorcist, but when it comes to melding the genres, it has usually come from strict parody, like the Scary Movie franchise.
But it seems like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil strikes a perfect balance between the two by way of the following plot: there’s a misunderstanding between hillbillies and preppy kids on vacation who think they’re in Deliverance. There’s plenty of gory delightful fun with cast Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, and 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden as you can see in the trailer below, but writer/director Eli Craig brings what looks to be a cleverness that’s rarely seen from most movies in the horror-comedy realm. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil will be available On Demand starting Aug. 26 and in theaters Sept. 30.
