Old law of comedy: if you are a stand-up comic, you will be heckled. It happens to everyone at some point, no matter how good you are. Even if you’re someone as kickass at the craft as Louis C.K. Much of the time, those potentially uncomfortable moments can also be hilarious, as you can see in the clip below. Justice served, C.K. style (Although, to be fair, it is a clip from his scripted show. But still…)
But a skilled comic at the helm doesn’t change the fact that an unwelcome audience interruption creates some inherent tension in the set, which is what went down at Largo in Los Angeles Friday night.
Aziz Ansari, fast rising stand-up comic most known to television addicts for his role as Tom Haverford on Parks and Recreation, offered a quick surprise set during Tig Notaro’s show when a woman in the crowd inquired, “Why don’t you have a red dot on your forehead?” Ooooh. Not okay, lady. Ansari’s retort? Asking why she didn’t have “cunt on her forehead.” And cue longer diatribe about how there are still racists in the world. Well done, Aziz.
