Former Man Show host and current podcast king Adam Carolla has teamed up with former King of the Hill executive producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky to start work on The Birchums, an animated series which has landed a presentation order from Fox. The Birchums is based on a character popularized by Carolla in the 1990’s on Los Angeles radio station KROQ’s Kevin and Bean morning show. The character, “Mr. Birchum,” is essentially a gruffer version of Carolla’s cynical persona. He’s a hard-nosed old-school woodshop teacher who’s frustrated with the world. The Birchums would expand his universe focusing on interactions with his family and friends all while he puts up with an increasingly unmanly world, according to TV Guide, who broke the news.
Carolla currently hosts The Car Show on The Speed Channel, hosts his own wildly popular podcast and recently penned the book In Fifty Years We’ll All Be Chicks, and Other Complaints From An Angry Middle Aged White Guy. Comedy fans no doubt remember Carolla’s Birchum character as it regularly appeared Comedy Central’s demented puppet show, Crank Yankers. Check it out below.
