Watch comedian Mike E. Winfield deal with sleeping audience member; what would you have done?

There’s a number of ways in which a skilled comedian can handle a persistent heckler. Sometimes, it’s a matter of straight-up engagement; maybe ignoring said heckler shuts them down; perhaps a burly bouncer can help out. Dealing with hecklers is an art in itself. But how does a comedian deal with a sleeping audience member? That happens a lot less, and so there’s not a lot of history we can examine to snag some tips. But thanks to comedian Mike E. Winfield’s just-uploaded video below, perhaps a guidebook of sorts has been born. Check it out below and let us know how you think he handled the situation. Would you have handled it differently?

And if you think the sleeping audience member syndrone only happens to up and comers like Winfield, think again. You may remember this now-classic part of the late Greg Giraldo’s Comedy Central special Midlife Vices, wherein the veteran comic masterfully deals with an energy-drained seat taker-upper.
