Comedian turned author and recent WTF with Marc Maron guest host Mike Birbiglia has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 Thurber Prize for American Humour. Thurber House, now in it’s 27th year will be presenting the award Oct. 3 in New York.

In 2008, Birbiglia teamed up with award-winning director Seth Barrish and Broadway legend Nathan Lane on his one-man show Sleepwalk With Me. The show was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Circle Critics Award for Best Solo Performance. Birbiglia’s book Sleepwalk with Me, and Other Painfully True Stories, his first literary attempt, grew out of this show and the book has gotten critical acclaim from many different authors, comics and journalists. And it’s that work Thurber House has selected for nomination.

Birbigs will compete against finalists David Rakoff and Rick Reilly for the Thurber Prize. Past Prize winners include Jon Stewart, David Sedaris and original Saturday Night Live scribe Alan Zweibel, who will be hosting the October awards ceremony.
