It seems, that with his starring role in last year’s Cedar Rapids, Ed Helms convinced Hollywood that he’s ready and able to headline comedy flicks– that he’s not destined to be relegated to ensemble casts on the big screen. And here’s the proof: the former Daily Show correspondent, Hangover co-star and current Office cast member will play the lead role in the American version of Le Mac, a French comedy that was originally released in 2010. The plot is centered around a “mild-mannered banker forced to masquerade as a notorious gangster and pimp,” according to the original film’s description.
Helms, along with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld’s Red Hour Films — as well as Guy Stodel — will produce the film, according to Variety. Johnny Rosenthal, the man behind the script for Bad Santa 2 (set for release next year) is writing Le Mac. No director has been announced.
Check out the original Le Mac trailer below to get a sense of what we can expect. True, it’s all in French, but I’m confident you’ll be able to grasp the whole fish-out-of-water thing. It’s not like you haven’t seen it before.
