Since June, when HBO announced it had picked up Ricky Gervais’ new show Life’s Too Short, we’ve been eagerly anticipating its premiere. In the meantime Gervais has teased us with a few updates on his blog and some video sneak peeks on the series. The show, produced by Gervais and writing partner Stephen Merchant, follows actor Warwick Davis — he stands three feet, six inches — on his quest to remain relevant in Hollywood, having starred in such movies as Willow and Leprechaun; he even played in Ewok on Return of the Jedi. Gervais just released this new clip from an upcoming episode, wherein Davis, playing a semi-fictionalized version of himself — subtly grovels to Gervais and Merchant for some work.
Described as a cross between Gervais’ Office and Extras, Life’s Too Short will feature celebrity guest roles in each of its seven episodes; Johnny Depp, Steve Carell, Cat Deeley, Liam Neeson, Helena Bonham Carter, Sting and Gervais’ good friend Jerry Seinffeld have all signed on to guest. Gervais and Merchant will also appear on the show, but not in major roles. “We’re like Charlie in Charlie’s Angels,” Gervais says.
