Over the weekend, we let you guys know about the likely possibility that comedian Eddie Murphy would host the next Oscar awards. Now we’re hearing from Deadline, who followed up on the original story broke by Humor Mill — that it’s a done deal. Murphy will, in fact, be the host. ABC will soon announce the details to make it official. “I learned that Eddie has now formally said yes,” Deadline’s Nikki Finke wrote moments ago. “This is coming months earlier than normal because usually the Oscars host isn’t chosen or announced until January. But everyone is eager to get out the news now.”

The 84th annual Oscar awards will air live on ABC on Feb. 27, 2012.
