In March of last year, I was lucky enough to be sitting in the second row of a George Carlin tribute produced by the New York Public Library. I was surrounded by the likes of Steve Martin, Ben Stiller (and his parents) as well as Richard Pryor’s daughter Rain and Lenny Bruce’s daughter, Kitty. It was overwhelming to say the least. You can read my recap of the night here.

Throughout the night, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, friends and family of the late comedian stood onstage and gave tributes to Carlin– daughter Kelly, Carlin’s brother Patrick as well as the likes of Kevin Smith, storyteller Dylan Brody and Stiller all paid their respects. But Louis C.K.’s tribute may have resonated most with the audience that night. The New York Public Library just released the video of his speech, so we’re sharing it with you now. Sit back and enjoy.
