Iconic comedian, actor and musician Steve Martin has teamed up with Jack Black and Owen Wilson for a film about competitive bird watching, The Big Year. Set for an Oct. 14 release, the flick centers around the three friends going head-to-head-to-head in The North American Big Year, a year-long challenge among bird watching aficionados to track and record the most birds in a single year. There are no rewards besides bragging rights and a spot in the history books. Interesting side note: Martin’s bluegrass album, released in March, is titled Rare Bird Alert, a reference to competitive bird watching.
The Big Year is based on the book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik. You can check out the film’s first trailer below.
