South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have plans to give us more of their comedy goodness in the form of another movie! The pair has confirmed they they’ll make a movie adaptation of their musical, The Book of Mormon, reports Entertainment Weekly. The musical, winner of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, centers around two young Mormon missionaries sent to a remote village in northern Uganda, where a brutal warlord is threatening the local population. The show is currently running on Broadway and will tour nationally starting next year. “Hopefully it will have a big run and a big tour and then we can do the movie in several years,” says Parker. The two have previously produced comedy flicks, including South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut and Team America: World Police.
If “several years” sounds like a long wait, have your fill of Stone and Parker when South Park returns for the second half of season 15 on Oct. 5th on Comedy Central; three days before the premiere the network will air a South Park documentary as a part of The Year Of The Fan, Comedy Central’s year-long celebration of 15 years of South Park.
For now, let’s check out a number from The Book of Mormon, filmed at this year’s Tony Awards ceremony.
