Most comedy nerds, including myself, will always remember Wendi McLendon-Covey as Deputy Clementine Johnson, the slutty, mouthy officer on Comedy Central’s Reno 911! But since her time on the cult hit ended in 2008, her career has been blowing up. And that means we’ll all just have to come to terms with this fact: the woman has comedy skills that move far beyond the Reno Sheriff’s Department. And Hollywood has, thankfully, taken note.
On the heels of the massive box office success of Bridesmaids (in which McLendon-Covey played Rita) and her recent casting in Steven Soderbergh’s flick Magic Mike, comes the news that the actress has been cast in a role in Fox’s new sitcom, I Hate My Teenage Daughter. TV Line reports that McLendon-Covey will play Principal Diego, “the woman running the high school attended by the bitchy offspring of Annie (Jamie Pressly) and Nikki (Katie Finneran).”
Check out the show’s trailer below to get a better sense of I Hate My Teenage Daughter. You may notice that Principal Diego appears, but it’s not McLendon-Covey; turns out the Reno 911! star is replacing Rosa Blasi. The show premieres Nov. 30 at 9:30 pm ET.
