Leaving with five trophies, hugely popular ABC show Modern Family left last night’s 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards as the big comedy winner. But their multiple wins — including best comedy series — didn’t steal any thunder from Mike and Molly co-star Melissa McCarthy, who took home the best actress in a comedy series award. Her male counterpart was Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons, who beat out Steve Carell, Louis C.K., Alec Baldwin, Matt LeBlanc and Parsons’ Big Bang co-star Johnny Galecki.
Modern Family’s on-screen husband and wife duo Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell (who play Claire and Phil Dunphy) took home the best supporting actress/actor trophies, but Modern Family (check out a quick season three preview below) didn’t stop there. They also took home the best writing in a comedy series (Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman) as well as best directing for a comedy series (Michael Spiller.)
The Daily Show was honored as best variety, music or comedy series as well as with the award for best writing for a variety, music or comedy series. Finally, best directing for a variety, music or comedy series went to Don Roy King of Saturday Night Live.
So, what did you guys think of the winners? Did everyone who deserved a win get one? Let us know in the comments.
