Two months ago, after TBS cancelled his late night talk show, George Lopez joked, “The unemployment rate is high, and for Latinos, it just got a little higher.” But Lopez has no plans of staying in that demographic though, seeing as he’s announced his partnership with Carnival cruise lines a few weeks ago and now he’s vowing to return to television.
Lopez says he’s creating a new family-oriented comedy in which he’ll play the father and husband. But George Lopez, the now-syndicated sitcom that aired on ABC from 2002 to 2007, it will not be. Lopez said his new show, not yet titled, “will be the opposite,” adding, “Whoever is my relative, I will not be nice to them.”
To occupy the new talk show-less free time even further, Lopez also plans to star in his third HBO comedy special, his first since 2009’s Tall, Dark, & Chicano. So although he was fired from hosting Lopez Tonight after ratings fell from high’s of 910,000 nightly viewers to 391,000, there is no shortage of work for the hugely successful comedian to keep him out of the 99 percent. Topical!
The question is, are you excited for more Lopez on TV or would you rather the guy pursue other projects? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
