You guys, aren’t comedians just the best people ever? Watch your black and white backs, nuns – the bar on do-good-ery has just been significantly raised by comedian John Fugelsang and the rest of the Sexy Liberals Comedy Tour. Following the savage police insurgence at the Occupy Oakland rally on Oct. 25, which has left an Iraq War veteran in critical condition, it was announced by the members of the tour – including Fugelsang, Stephanie Miller and Hal Sparks – that free tickets to the weekend’s Oakland tour stop would be handed out to Occupy protestors.
According to the tour’s publicist, the move is intended to be a show of solidarity with the message of the movement, not a cheap ploy to piggyback off the notoriety of the Occupation. I believe it – comedians are usually pretty reliably awesome when it comes to important social issues. Hell, even Jay Leno once played a free show for the unemployed auto workers of Detroit.
