The folks in the White House think Jimmy Kimmel is a swell guy. Actually, they enjoy his “sophisticated and edgy” humor and they say he appeals to a “wide audience.” And that’s why they’ve chosen the popular late night host of Jimmy Kimmel Live to hosts its annual White House Correspondents’ dinner.

If you’re not sure what the The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is, it’s basically when the President and his wife and a bunch of other politicians gather alongside members of the press in a fancy hall and eat fancy food and shit. And every year, they get a comedian-type to host the thing– because everyone knows there’s no one funny in government. Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyer’s did the honors earlier this year.

“I love dinner,” Kimmel said of his gig, which will go down next year.
