Over the last few years, UK import Russell Brand has become much more than one of the most popular stand-up comedians in the world. He’s a two-time author, is the husband to one the world’s biggest pop stars (Katy Perry) and a bit of a movie star. He also formed his own production company Branded Films– and now said company is finally entering the movie world. Its first project will be a comedy flick called The President Stole My Girlfriend; Warner Bros is set to helm the project.
“In this movie, the president steals the girlfriend of a sexy hippie—me, obviously,” Brand told the Hollywood Reporter. “It was inspired by the night I naively invited [Warners president] Jeff Robinov for dinner.”
Brand was last seen in the remake of Arthur, which came out in April. The comedian will next be seen in Rock of Ages, the screen adaptation of the Broadway show. He’s also been cast in director and writer Diablo Cody’s movie Lamb of God, in which he plays a recovering drug addict– a role that no doubt hits home with Brand, as he’s a recovering addict, himself.
