After years of stellar ratings within desirable demographics, an incredible cross-platform visibility and mentoring a small army of up and coming stand-up comedians, it should come as no surprise that E! has renewed Chelsea Handler’s contract through 2014.
The new deal all comes down to Handler continuing to host and executive produce her late-night chat show Chelsea Lately, which has helped comedians like Whitney Cummings, Chris Hardwick, Loni Love, Sarah Colonna and more reach a higher level of mainstream popularity since the show’s launch in 2007.
The updated deal with E! also finds Handler’s Borderline Amazing Productions in a position to possibly produce more shows not just for E!, but also for NBCUniversal. It makes sense, since she’s already producing, writing and will be making cameos on the NBC show, Are You There, Vodka?, starring That ‘70s Show Laura Prepon as a younger Handler. The series is set to premiere Jan. 11, following Whitney Cummings’ show Whitney.
“Chelsea is an extraordinary talent whose smart, clever, no-holds-barred point of view has clearly been embraced by viewers,” said E! president Suzanne Kolb.
