It’s finally happening, folks. We first heard Steve Carell and David Steinberg were working on a documentary about comedians way back in December of last year. Three months ago we found out that Showtime had picked up the project, called Laughing Stock, and that it would become a weekly series. And today we finally got a premiere date: Jan. 26 at 11 pm ET. The show is now called Inside Comedy, though it’s still listed as the former title on IMDB.

We already knew the likes of Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Carol Burnett and Don Rickles would be featured on the show, which will run 10 episodes at 30 minutes each. Now we can tell you other interview subjects will include Billy Crystal, Larry David, Carl Reiner, Kathy Griffin, Garry Shandling, Sarah Silverman, Tim Conway, Jane Lynch, Steven Wright, Brad Garrett, Martin Short and Carell, himself.

Steinberg, who started his career as a comedian and is now best known for directing Mad About You and Curb Your Enthusiasm, will host and direct each episode.
