Oh, Community– how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!
The show’s creator Dan Harmon just tweeted, “The Easter egg that took three years to hide. Our show is TOTALLY ACCESSIBLE.” He included a link to the below video, wherein we see a reference to the Michael Keaton dark comedy Beetlejuice from 1988. To summon the titular character, you’d say his name three times. So, Harmon did the same, even though it took three years to play it out. Hilarious.
Harmon gets extra points for making the “accessible” comment– presumably in response to those who say Community is over the heads of mainstream America and therefore will never be a ratings giant. As you undoubtedly know, NBC recently announced the show would be put on hiatus to make room for the midseason return of 30 Rock. No return date for Community has been set.
