Ricky Gervais sure is making our comedy reporting lives more difficult – it’s hard to keep his 800 million projects straight. But, hey, what’s another added to the list? The Guardian reports that Gervais has just made yet another comedy pilot for Channel 4, starring as a nursing home care worker named Derek.
Joining him, naturally, is Karl Pilkington, his perennial sidekick: “He really got a buzz out of acting,” said Gervais on his blog. “He was playing a complete weirdo div useless miserable bald-headed Manc twat. He nailed it.”
Well, considering I know about four of the words used to describe Karl’s character, I’ll leave you to guess what the role is actually like. Though we don’t have too many other details yet, the show is another fake documentary series like The Office and Extras. And Gervais calls it “pretty, pretty good.” Cross your fingers that it makes the broadcast cut – and maybe we’ll see it in the States in the near future.
