If there’s one thing that makes award shows palatable, it’s Ricky Gervais at the hosting helm. He rarely shies away from skewering Hollywood’s finest, from Kim Kardashian to Mel Gibson. So I have to admit to being fairly bummed that Gervais apparently won’t be returning to host the Golden Globes as he’s done since 2010. Writing on his blog, Gervais says, “I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It’s like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn’t die and it was quite an amazing thing to do.”
Though Gervais received some flak for tempering his historically more pointed jabs at actors and actresses in attendance (you can watch his Globes monologue here), I can’t think of anyone better suited to taking those folks to task during what’s usually a fairly boring evening of giving awards to actors in a mini-series no one has ever heard of.
