Do you love to go to Austin, Texas to see comedy at South by Southwest, but you could really do without the Pitchfork-approved, up-and-coming musicians that SXSW is really all about? If so, we have good news for you: Austin is about to be home to a new comedy festival with no indie rock in it!
From April 25–28, you can attend the very first Moontower Comedy & Oddity Fest presented by the Paramount Theatre. “Comedy” because that’s what you’ll see there, and “oddity” because it’s in Austin, which we’re supposed to keep weird.
The festival will have lots and lots of stand-up, sketch, improv and comedy music provided by the more than 60 comics who will be performing at the festival, including Aziz Ansari, Maria Bamford, Hannibal Buress, Jackie Kashian, Joe Mande, Seth Meyers, Baron Vaughn, Brendon Walsh, Brent Weinbach and Steven Wright. That’s just a taste; the complete lineup will be announced soon.
Of the new festival, comedian and amateur food critic Ansari said, “I’m so excited to come back to Austin. I can’t wait to eat at Torchy’s Tacos, Uchiko, and hopefully finally try Franklin BBQ. Oh, I’m also doing stand-up, I think.” Whether or not Cuba Gooding Jr. will be in attendance to provide support remains to be seen.
Festival badges and VIP passes will go on sale Feb. 1. Visit moontowercomedyfestival.com for more info.
