Watch Steven Wright and Craig Ferguson try to out-weird each other

While the traditional formula of a two-hander still works to this day (one plays “straight,” one plays crazy), a pair playing crazy in their own respective ways can be one of the most delightful things to watch. Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel, for example, hosting anything from their live show Crash Test at the UCB Theatre in Los Angeles to the most recent Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on VH1 are great examples.

Another great example, as it turns out, is wry-as-wry-can-be comedian Steven Wright doing a panel interview with Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show. Every time Wright is on the show, both he and Ferguson try to out-weird each other. Wright will drop an off-hand comment in his one-of-a-kind drawl and Ferguson will try to make the stoic-faced comic crack with his goofiness– as he does quite often.

We can only hope that this pairing of Wright and Ferguson happens more often. Watch and see what we’re talking about in the clip below.

Jake Kroeger has dedicated his life, for better or probably worse, to comedy. Starting and continually running the Comedy Bureau, a voice for LA comedy, by himself, he also writes and performs stand-up comedy in LA and watches more live comedy than is probably humanly tolerable. He's been a daily contributor to Punchline Magazine, now Laughspin.com because he loves and believes in comedy so much. Said of Kroeger, "...without his dangerously insane, unhealthy work ethic, certain comics would not have any press at all."
