At times, one can watch a stand-up set on late night TV and think, “That’s so funny. Why did I never think of that topic that way?” Many times, acute observations on society are so deftly hidden within the framework of jokes that many casual observers have no idea of the work it took to put a set like that together.
John Roy is such a comic who had a stellar set on Conan this week. He’s been on Leno, Last Comic Standing, done the road for several years, and is a skilled joke craftsman– and he encapsulated all of that in the below set. To come up with a legitimately funny “Sweet Caroline” joke in 2012 (plenty of comics have made fun of the Neil Diamond catalog, not to mention the movie Saving Silverman) is no easy feat and you should watch Roy do exactly that (and more).
