Known mostly for her work on the Disney Channel (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody) and in the High School Musical franchise, Ashley Tisdale will now be working closely with the decidedly un-Disney Louis C.K. We reported in January that C.K. had inked a deal with CBS to develop a sitcom centered around a group of young folks struggling to realize their dreams in a crappy economy. Tisdale, according to Deadline, “will play Petra, the beautiful and sarcastic assistant to a vintage clothing designer struggling to carve out her niche in New York.”
C.K., a purveyor of brutally honest, gritty perspectives on life, seen through his stand-up comedy and in his Emmy-winning, show Louie on FX, the CBS project — although way too early to say for sure — seems like it may be a departure for the Grammy award-winning comic. First, it’s on a major, mainstream network– one that boasts some of the most watched, and thematically uncontroversial comedies on television (Two And A Half Men, Big Bang Theory ). Secondly, the as-of-yet-untitled show is also going to be a multi-camera affair (read: not the way Louie is shot). So, visually, it’ll look more like those aforementioned shows than it will Louie.
Of course, we’re only talking about a pilot at this point. A lot has to happen before this thing gets the green light. But with C.K.’s huge successes of late, I can’t imagine CBS isn’t going to do everything in its power to make it happen. What do you guys think? Do you hope it gets made? Are you curious to see how C.K. will handle a show on a major network? Sound off in the comments section!
