Oh, Adam Sandler. How the funny have fallen. While many of his classic comedic endeavors, such as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore were critically panned yet adored by fans, none of his productions reached the level of pure hatred that last year’s Jack and Jill received from pretty much everyone. Audiences had to only see part of a trailer to realize that in no movie should Adam Sandler dress like his own twin sister. Never. Ever. Never Ever. Ever.

However, Sandler will not miss out on award season this year, as he’s snagged more nominations than any other actor, writer or producer. Unfortunately, these are nominations for the Razzies, which are dishonorable awards for the worst in film. Sandler received a total of 11 nominations, setting the record for most nominations in the 22-year tradition of the ceremony. Sandler got nods as star, producer or writer of three 2011 films including the aforementioned as well as Just Go with It and the ill-fated Nick Swardson flick Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star. Among the host of nominations, Sandler received not only a nomination for Worst Actor, but also for Worst Actress for the portrayal of his own twin sister.

“It’s almost karmic for someone to have made that much razz-able stuff in one year,’’ said Razzies founder John Wilson. “He has angered someone really powerful, I would say.’’

Sandler will have to wait until April Fool’s Day to find how just how many of these awards he gets. The Razzies traditionally have announced nominees the day before the Oscar nominations and the winners the night before the Oscars. But this year, the founder and entire voting committee decided to try April 1, feeling the comedic holiday would be the best day to distribute awards. Maybe these nominations will be the push Sandler needs to take a step back and realize he should not make any and every idea that comes across his desk.
