From Netflix producing the new season of Arrested Development to just about everything Funny or Die posts and to sites like Hulu and Crackle releasing its own programming, these days, the online world is constantly competing to release the best new original comedy content for viewers. Not wanting to be left behind, Yahoo! has expanded the quantity of their original content available and premiering three new comedy web series today, with more to come over the next few months.
Funny Or Die Presents: First Dates With Toby Harris featuring Seth Morris of Funny or Die, Sketchy, a weekly variety sketch program and the already popular internet series 7 Minutes in Heaven with Saturday Night Live writer Mike O’Brien (pictured above) have all launched today. The series join the existing Yahoo! Studios original show, Odd News, which is weekly program hosted by comedian Greg Proops featuring the most bizarre news stories from around the world. “Yahoo! is already the leader in original storytelling online, with nine out of the top 10 shows on the web and provocative, groundbreaking projects like Tom Hanks’ ‘Electric City,’” said Mickie Rosen, SVP Yahoo! Media Network. Over the next couple of months Yahoo! will debut additional comedy web series including Hackerazzi and Burning Love, which will feature comedy favorites Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Kristen Bell, Michael Ian Black and more spoofing popular reality dating shows.
Yahoo! has already had success with their original comedy programming content with one billion streams to date. With the addition of these new shows, Yahoo! is trying to solidify a spot as one of the top destinations for comedy video content.
